200-year-old steam-driven beam engines and pumps

What’s there:

Come and visit the oldest working steam engines in the world still performing the job they were built to do!  There are two beam engines, one of which is an original 200-year-old Boulton & Watt. Both are fed by a hand-stoked, coal-fired Lancashire boiler. These are magnificent pieces of industrial archaeology appealing both to families and steam enthusiasts. Why not linger in our distinguished Engineman’s Rest Café and gift shop, both open during the summer season every day (except Wednsday) 10.30 to 4.30.  The engine house is set in unspoiled Wiltshire countryside close to the old market town of Marlborough.  Click here for opening times, Steaming Days and entry prices. The site opens fully on March 19, 2016 although, in the meantime, we have some  Winter Public Maintenance Open Days - Click here for more information.
