Opening Times: Tuesday – Sunday. Closed Mondays, except Bank Holidays.
Our new catering partners Emma and Barry Withers would like to welcome you to the Engineman’s Rest Cafe which opens again from 6 April 2019. Emma’s background is in catering and hospitality and Barry ran his own business for over ten years.
Please read on to learn more about the delicious eats and treats that are available to enjoy at the Engineman’s Rest. We look forward to seeing you soon!
We will be serving freshly made food, and homemade cakes. Along with all your favourite treats, we will be adding daily specials, so there’s always a good reason to pop in to try something new.
In addition to our homemade eats and treats we have carefully selected mouth-watering products to serve you in the cafe. We have teamed up with a number of small family run artisan producers, including a local brewery and distillery, a local pie maker, a local cider farm, a local tea maker, a small coffee roastery and a local family butcher. They are all passionate about what they do and that really shows in the products they make.
If your taste buds are craving a pasty, then we have just the thing with award-winning handmade real Cornish pasties from Cornwall, cooked on site fresh each day.
The cafe is licensed so you can come and enjoy a nice cold beer, cider, a glass of wine, or even a gin and tonic. There is also a Shmoo milkshake machine, so why not spoil yourself with a delicious thick milkshake!
If hand roasted whole bean coffee, top grade tea, or a luxurious hot chocolate is your drink then remember to grab yourself a loyalty card! Buy nine and get the tenth free (for all hot drinks).
We are also making sure we are eco-friendly too; all our take-away coffee cups and napkins will be 100% compostable and on steaming events we will be using 100% compostable plastic cups in the Old Smithy Bar.
If you are looking to buy a gift, keepsake or a memento of your visit to Crofton Beam Engines there is the Engineman’s shop situated inside the cafe. Here you will find a selection of Kennet & Avon Canal Trust souvenirs, sweets, beer and cider gift packs, crystals and Crofton Beam Engines engraved glasses. The shop will be open during cafe opening times.
The cafe is open Tuesday to Sunday between 10.30am to 4.30pm, during Crofton’s open season. In 2019 we are open from 6 April to 6 October, every day except Mondays (except when we are in steam on Bank Holidays when we will be open).
During steaming weekends the Old Smithy Bar will be open and, weather dependant, there will be a BBQ with vegetarian options available as well as the cafe.
We very much look forward to welcoming you soon. And remember, if you live locally and need to grab something on the go, we can also do take-aways!
