Information on how we are following Government guidelines and staying Covid Secure at Crofton
Yellow distancing queue lines are marked outside the station entrance as well as the visitor toilets and site entrance. Visitors will see signage around the site reminding everyone to follow the government guidance. Volunteers and staff will continue to wear face coverings inside the station. We encourage visitors to wear a face covering inside the station (unless exempt).
The Parallel motion (James Watt design) will still be disassembled on Engine No 2, Harvey of Hayle but on Engine No 1, Boulton and Watt the Parallel motion is intact.
James Watt was most proud of the invention of the “parallel motion”; he described it as, “one of the most ingenious, simple pieces of mechanism I have contrived.” In a letter to his son in 1808 describing how he arrived at the design, James Watt wrote “I am more proud of the parallel motion than of any other invention I have ever made.”
Please note the car park will be open to visitors from 10.30am – 2.30pm. Car Park charges in effect. The Café is closed until further notice. Access to the site by the main gate only. The gate from the tow path is locked.
