Planning a Group Visit

We invite your school or community group to visit us at Crofton. We offer learning sessions and guided tours of the station throughout the year, so please contact us to arrange a visit. There is more information in the drop-down menu below or download our Teacher’s Information Booklet. We look forward to hearing from you!

What sessions do you offer?

There is more information here on the current sessions we offer. We also invite you to tell us about your group and the focus of your visit so that we can tailor our offer to meet your needs.

When can I visit?

Primary school visits generally take place on a Wednesday – Friday when our Learning and Community Engagement Officer is available. Other group visits can be considered on other days, however. Please contact us so we can discuss your requirements.

We encourage all teachers and group leaders who are planning a visit to Crofton to attend a free familiarisation visit. Please contact us here to arrange a time to speak to our Learning and Community Engagement Officer regarding your visit.

We are happy for any school staff that will be accompanying the children on the day of the actual visit to attend the familiarisation visit, so that everyone feels fully confident on the day.

Tell me more about your site and where you’re located.

We are located between the villages of Burbage and Great Bedwyn in the hamlet of Crofton, approximately six miles south of Marlborough.  What3Words: ///builds.wiser.exploring Is our site entrance location.

The Pumping Station is a Grade I listed building and as such has some access limitations. We have fully accessible toilets and access for wheelchair users to the grounds, Boiler House and Side Boiler House. Unfortunately, there is no access to the upper levels of the Station. Please make us aware of any wheelchair users at the time of booking or before the day of your visit. See here for more information.

We currently use our Side Boiler House for our learning sessions. In addition, there is space here for children to keep their belongings for the duration of the visit. Due to the nature of the site, it may be necessary to split a class into two groups for a guided tour. Learning sessions can accommodate up to 34 children.

There are uncovered picnic tables on the bottom lawn. If the weather is poor, children may eat their lunches in the Side Boiler House in the station. Please note that while there is no café on site, tea or coffee is available for group leaders. We have a small car park opposite the site entrance with 32 spaces for cars, 2 accessible spaces and a bay for motorcycles. There is normally space here for 1 x full-size coach by prior arrangement. Please contact us for specific directions and assistance, as coach entry is only viable when coming from a certain direction. We have developed a social story here for you to share with your group.

How can I book or find out more?

You can contact us here or email our Learning and Community Engagement Officer (Whitney Cawley) at lceo.crofton@katrust.org.uk to arrange a group visit.

How much does it cost?

As of September 2026, we charge £3.50/child. Adults are free at a ratio of 1:6 for KS1, 1:8 for KS2 and 1:10 for KS3.

If we come to your school, we currently charge a standard travel cost of £0.55/mile.

Arts Award Discover Sessions incur an additional cost of £4.90/child (£4.59/child for groups of 25+) to cover the cost of the Arts Award Discover Certificate from Trinity College London.

Social Story

We’ve developed a social story for you to share with your group.

Risk Assessment and Safeguarding Policy

You can download a copy of our Risk Assessment or Safeguarding Policy below.

Please note that these are written from Crofton’s perspective and we recommend that all potential Group Leaders also conduct their own risk assessments during your familiarisation visit.

Please ensure you read our Risk Assessments for school visitors before your visit and brief all accompanying adults and, where appropriate, the children.
