It is said that you never own a vintage motor-car, you are only looking after it for the next person. The same can be said of Crofton. So this book is dedicated to all those people who have looked after Crofton Pumping Station since 1809, when it started pumping water into the Kennet and Avon Canal: all the engine-men, boiler-men and maintenance staff, and all the volunteers who have cared for the place since restoration began in 1968. They have all kept it in good order ready to be passed on to the next generation

Dedication – The Crofton Story – Ian Broom (2013)

This important book charts the life of Crofton and describes much of the underlying technology and science that makes it so unique. It continues to need – and deserve – the devoted care of those responsible for it, so that we can retain it as a shining example of innovation, skill and achievements.
