Looking Back – From Pedals to Petrol: an Illustrated Journey through the Development of the Motorcycle – Event 2019

This fascinating talk, was first of Crofton’s six month programme of winter season events and activities at venues all over Wiltshire, takes us on a journey from the early foot powered bicycles to modern petrol power taking in pedals and steam power along the way, looking what speeded and impeded the developments and how society and legislation affected progress.

Our Speaker – Dr Reg Eyre

Reg Eyre has been a motorcyclist since the age of sixteen and never had a period without a motorcycle. He became fascinated by old machines and found that he was allowed to ride these primitive machines on the public highway. This has led to published articles in motorcycle magazines, a Ph.D. and publications in various journals as well as talks about the history of motorcycles. He is currently leading a debate within the Vintage Motor Cycle Club concerning the dating of Pioneer machines.
