What is the Wild Escape?

The Wild Escape invites primary school children (ages 7-11) to find a favourite animal in their local museum and create an artwork imagining its journey to a natural habitat. This project is uniting hundreds of museums and schools in celebration of UK wildlife and creativity.

Led by Art Fund and supported by Arts Council England.

While Crofton Beam Engines doesn’t have animals in it’s collection, it is surround by wildlife and the natural environment.

Our Wild Escape

White background. Barn Owl collage made with white and brown paper.

Children from local schools took part in our Wild Escape Workshops, where we learned about the red kite, grey heron, brown hare, rook and moorhen. They have created collages, fact files, poems, and sculptures about these five animals.

We have brought all their fantastic work together to create an exhibition, which will be displayed in our Side Boiler House on Saturday 22nd April. We invite you to come and view this brilliant artwork for FREE!

We will also have three 50 minute craft sessions at 11:00, 13:00 and 14:00 making owl collages and animal suncatchers for £2 per child. Booking for these is essential as places are limited.

Whilst you’re with us why not take a self-guided tour around the engine house to discover over 200 years of history stepping back in time to when steam was king. Ticket available to purchase on the day, booking not required. For admission prices please see our Opening Times & Prices page here.
